Following the discovery of renowned Assam singer Zubeen Garg's body in Singapore waters last month, his wife Garima Garg has spoken to NDTV, emphasizing that "the law will take its own course" after two arrests were made in connection with her husband's death case.
Garima Garg expressed her determination to uncover "what exactly happened" to the iconic singer. "We have to know what exactly happened. They should be questioned. The investigation is on, and the law will take its own course. And it will proceed that way. We all should cooperate," she stated firmly.
Authorities have arrested two individuals: Siddhartha Sharma, Zubeen Garg's manager, and Shyamkanu Mahanta, chief organizer of the North East India Festival (NEIF). Mahanta was apprehended at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport upon his arrival from Singapore, while Sharma was taken into custody from an apartment in Gurugram. Both have been transported to Guwahati for questioning.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the singer's death had previously issued summons to both the manager and organizer, who had been missing since Zubeen's death. They were required to join the investigation by October 6. Similar summons were extended to approximately a dozen others from Assam who had accompanied Zubeen on the yacht.
The 52-year-old musical icon had gone swimming in Singapore waters when he was found deceased, floating face down. He had traveled to Singapore to participate in the three-day North East India Festival, originally scheduled to begin on September 20. Following his tragic death, the festival was canceled.
Today, Zubeen's Adya Sharaddha, a ritual performed 13 days after a person's death, is being held in Assam's Jorhat, where the singer began his illustrious musical career. Thousands of admirers are gathering to pay their respects, with the state government implementing strict crowd management measures.
Additionally, the state government has announced plans to construct a second memorial in Jorhat to permanently honor the singer's significant contributions to music and cinema.
