New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Wednesday, where he will unveil a specially designed commemorative postage stamp and coin recognizing the organization's contributions to the nation.

According to an official statement, the Prime Minister will serve as the chief guest at this significant event and deliver an address to those in attendance.

The RSS, established in 1925 in Nagpur by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, was founded as a volunteer organization focused on promoting cultural awareness, discipline, service, and social responsibility among citizens.

The statement describes RSS as "a unique people-nurtured movement for national reconstruction," noting that its emergence represented a response to centuries of foreign rule. The organization's continued growth is attributed to the emotional connection many feel with its vision of India's national glory, which is deeply rooted in Dharma.

A fundamental focus of the Sangh is instilling patriotism and developing national character. The RSS aims to cultivate devotion to the motherland, discipline, self-restraint, courage, and heroism among its members.

According to the official statement, "The Sangh's ultimate goal is the 'Sarvangeena Unnati' (all-round development) of India, to which every Swayamsevak dedicates himself."

Throughout its century-long existence, the RSS has made significant contributions to education, health, social welfare, and disaster relief efforts. Its volunteers have actively participated in relief and rehabilitation work during various natural disasters, including floods, earthquakes, and cyclones.

Furthermore, numerous RSS-affiliated organizations have worked toward empowering youth, women, and farmers, while promoting public participation and strengthening local communities across India.

"The centenary celebrations not only honour the historical achievements of the RSS, but also highlight its enduring contributions to India's cultural journey and its message of national unity," the statement added.

It is worth noting that PM Modi was previously an RSS pracharak (full-time worker) who distinguished himself as a capable organizer before transitioning to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which draws its ideological foundation from the Hindutva organization.
