Airlines have issued travel advisories to passengers due to weather conditions affecting flight schedules.
New Delhi experienced significant rainfall and thunderstorms on Tuesday, providing relief from recent high temperatures. The downpour resulted in waterlogging across numerous areas, causing traffic disruptions throughout the city.
Video footage revealed the Zakhira underpass completely flooded, with pedestrians attempting to navigate through the water-covered streets.
Major airlines operating in the region have warned travelers about potential flight delays and schedule changes due to the adverse weather conditions.
IndiGo Airlines posted an advisory on social media platform X, stating: "Persistent rainfall and thunderstorms are currently affecting Delhi, leading to possible delays in flight operations. Our teams are closely monitoring the situation to ensure your journey resumes as soon as conditions improve. If you're travelling today, we recommend checking your flight status on our website or app before leaving for the airport. Please also allow for additional travel time, as road conditions may be slower than usual."
Similarly, Air India issued a warning that read: "Heavy rain may impact flight operations to and from Delhi today." The carrier advised passengers to verify flight status before heading to the airport and to allocate extra travel time due to anticipated traffic slowdowns.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has implemented an 'orange' alert for heavy rainfall in the region today. Their forecast indicates: "Thunderstorm/lightning with moderate rain with gusty winds very likely over parts of South East Delhi, East Delhi, Shahadra, Central Delhi, North East Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, South West Delhi, West Delhi, North West Delhi, and North Delhi."
