Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his support for US President Donald Trump's new initiative to resolve the Gaza conflict. Modi stated that Trump's 'Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict' offers a viable path toward sustainable peace for both Palestinian and Israeli peoples.
"We welcome President Donald J. Trump's announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long-term and sustainable peace, security, and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region," Prime Minister Modi shared on social platform X.
"We hope that all concerned will come together behind President Trump's initiative and support this effort to end conflict and secure peace."
Following discussions at the White House on Monday, Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reached an agreement on Washington's 20-point proposal to end hostilities in Gaza.
The plan requires an immediate cessation of all hostile activities. Hamas would be required to release all hostages—both living and deceased—within 72 hours. Currently, the militants are holding 48 hostages, with Israel believing that 20 remain alive.
In exchange, Israel would release 250 Palestinians serving life sentences in Israeli prisons along with 1,700 individuals detained from Gaza since the conflict began, including all women and children. For each deceased hostage returned, Israel would also return the bodies of 15 Palestinians.
The proposal includes an Israeli military withdrawal, but this would only occur after Hamas disarms and as international security forces deploy to areas vacated by Israeli troops.
Israel would maintain a "security perimeter presence"—ambiguous wording that might indicate a buffer zone inside Gaza. These terms could face resistance from Hamas, which has stated it will not release all hostages without a "clear declaration" that the war will end and Israel will completely withdraw from Gaza.
Under the plan, Hamas would have no administrative role in Gaza, and all its military infrastructure—including tunnel networks—would be dismantled. Hamas members who pledge to live peacefully would receive amnesty, while those wishing to leave Gaza would be permitted to do so.
An international security force would ensure Hamas' disarmament and maintain order, while also training Palestinian police to assume law enforcement responsibilities. Egypt, acting as mediator, has reported training thousands of Palestinian police officers for deployment in Gaza.
The plan allows for substantial humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza, administered by "neutral international bodies" including the United Nations and Red Crescent. The status of the Gaza Humanitarian Fund—a controversial alternative food distribution system supported by Israel and the US—remains unclear under this proposal.
The plan explicitly states that Palestinians will not be expelled from Gaza, and it commits to an international effort for rebuilding the territory for Palestinian inhabitants.
