Accidents Or Murders? UP Man's Chilling Plot To Claim Insurance Money

A horrifying case has been uncovered in Uttar Pradesh where a man orchestrated an elaborate scheme to collect massive insurance payouts by allegedly murdering his family members and disguising their deaths as road accidents.

The suspect, identified as Vishal Kumar, was apprehended after Niva Bupa, one of the insurance companies he defrauded, filed a police complaint expressing doubts about the suspicious circumstances surrounding his family members' deaths.

Authorities have charged Kumar with the murders of his father Mukesh Singhal, his mother Prabha Devi, and his wife, whose name remains undisclosed. Police believe he meticulously staged each death to appear as road accidents.

The fraud case was registered at Hapur City Police Station, with Niva Bupa describing the incidents as part of a carefully planned conspiracy. Another individual, Satish Kumar, has been arrested as an accomplice in the scheme.

Investigation revealed that Mukesh Singhal held insurance policies with numerous companies including Niva Bupa, Tata AIG, Max Life, Aditya Birla, and HDFC Ergo. Despite reporting an annual income of only Rs 12-15 lakhs, Singhal's combined insurance coverage amounted to approximately Rs 39 crore, with his son Vishal Kumar named as the beneficiary for all policies.

The fraud began to unravel when authorities investigated Mukesh Singhal's death on March 27, 2024, which was initially reported as a road accident. Investigators discovered significant discrepancies in medical records from two different hospitals regarding the timing and cause of death.

Further examination revealed that Kumar had previously collected nearly Rs 80 lakh following his mother Prabha Devi's death on June 21, 2017, also reported as a road accident. Additionally, he received Rs 30 lakh after his wife's death under similar circumstances.

According to officials, insurance companies have already paid approximately Rs 1 crore to Kumar across these claims.

The investigation also uncovered that Kumar allegedly used fraudulent identification documents, including fake Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and bank accounts to secure insurance policies in his father's name. Reports indicate that Kumar refused to cooperate with investigators and even attempted to bribe officials during the investigation.
