New Delhi:
Former Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) president Ronak Khatri has filed a complaint with Delhi Police after reportedly receiving an extortion demand for Rs 5 crore from an international number.
In his complaint to the deputy commissioner of police (outer north), the NSUI leader detailed that he received a threatening call at 12:44 pm on Monday from a number bearing Ukraine's country code.
According to Khatri, the caller identified themselves as a member of the Rohit Godara gang and threatened lethal consequences if the demanded sum wasn't paid.
"Shortly after the phone call, I received a WhatsApp message from the identical number reiterating the demand and death threat," Khatri mentioned in his formal complaint.
He further emphasized, "This situation constitutes serious criminal intimidation and extortion while also posing significant threats to my personal safety and that of my family members." The student leader submitted his complaint electronically, including screenshots of both the call log and WhatsApp message as supporting evidence.
In his communication, Khatri urged authorities to provide security protection immediately and take appropriate legal action under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act.
DCP (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami confirmed the complaint's receipt, stating, "We received Ronak Khatri's extortion complaint today at 2:52 pm via email and will be taking the necessary legal actions."
