Palghar:

A 32-year-old resident of Palghar, Maharashtra allegedly took his own life after recording a video message in which he accused his wife, in-laws, and his own father of continuous harassment, according to police statements released on Monday.

Authorities have filed a case of abetment to suicide against his wife, father, and in-laws, police officials confirmed.

The deceased, identified as Babu Vitthal Karande, was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan at his home in Parasnath Nagari located in the Naigaon area on September 25 evening, police reported.

His mother later returned home to find him hanging, after which local authorities were immediately notified.

According to Naigaon police, the man had reportedly been suffering harassment from his wife, in-laws, and even his own father for over a year.

Prior to taking the extreme step, he recorded a video message allegedly attributing his distress to them and stating that their persistent harassment drove him to end his life, a police official explained.

The video was reportedly shared with the deceased's wife and his brother shortly after the incident occurred.

A police complaint filed by the deceased's brother alleged that since the previous year, Babu had endured repeated physical assaults, false accusations, and court disputes initiated by the accused family members.

Based on this complaint, Naigaon police registered a case on Friday against the man's wife, father, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law under sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the official stated.

Police are currently verifying the allegations made in the complaint and examining the contents of the video recording.
