39 individuals lost their lives during a TVK rally organized by Chief Vijay in Karur on Saturday.
In Karur (Tamil Nadu), according to Suganthy Rajakumari, the state's Director of Medical Education (DME), two patients remain in critical condition requiring ventilator support following a stampede incident that claimed 39 lives at a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally.
Speaking with ANI, the Director confirmed that postmortem examinations and the handover of remains to families would be completed before Sunday noon. She added that the government had made arrangements for accommodation, food, and other necessary provisions for affected families.
"We received a total of 39 deceased individuals and 52 patients. Only two patients remain in critical condition on ventilators. We will complete all postmortem procedures and return the bodies to family members before noon. The government has arranged accommodation, food, and other necessities," Rajakumari informed ANI.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tamilisai Soundarajan called for sensitivity regarding the tragedy and mentioned that all district presidents had been instructed to provide assistance where needed.
"I'm traveling to Karur to support those in distress. We will provide all necessary support. I urge everyone to act sensibly rather than sensationalizing the situation. Whether blood donations, medical assistance, or family support is required, we've requested our district president and presidents of neighboring districts to offer help in every possible way. I arrived in Karur early morning, and our state president is also en route. The Union Home Minister has contacted the Chief Minister to inquire about the situation and offer central government assistance. The Prime Minister has expressed his deep condolences to the nation," Soundarajan stated to ANI.
S. Davidson Devasirvatham, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Law and Order, informed reporters that authorities have registered a case and an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
"We need to complete the preliminary investigation. Thirty-nine people have tragically lost their lives. A case has been registered," the ADGP confirmed.
This devastating incident occurred during a TVK public meeting that attracted a massive crowd in Karur on Saturday.
