Authorities evacuated 55 residents from flood-prone areas in Hyderabad as the Musi River's water levels surged following intense rainfall.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) relocated people from Shivaji Bridge and Chaderghat communities after officials opened gates at both Himayatsagar and Osmansagar reservoirs, releasing approximately 25,000 cusecs of water into the Musi River.
Hyderabad's western technology districts experienced significant disruption with severe waterlogging affecting mobility across the region.
Major technology hubs including Gachibowli, Hitech City, Madhapur, and Kondapur suffered extensive flooding, causing commuters to remain trapped in gridlocked traffic for extended periods.
Floodwaters from the overflowing Himayat Sagar reservoir submerged Outer Ring Road (ORR) service roads, with Exit 17 becoming particularly problematic. Cyberabad traffic authorities advised motorists to avoid service roads due to dangerous water levels, impacting travel to peripheral areas.
Police officials issued Work-from-Home recommendations to technology companies to alleviate pressure on critical transportation routes.
Hyderabad's historic center, characterized by densely populated neighborhoods and limited drainage infrastructure, experienced substantial flooding impacts.
Locations near Charminar and throughout the Old City, including Falaknuma, Malakpet, Bahadurpura, and Chandulal Baradari, faced severe waterlogging following brief but powerful rain showers.
Streets in these districts became unusable due to knee-deep water accumulation, necessitating traffic diversions implemented by local police.
Primary thoroughfares in central districts, encompassing Nampally, Khairatabad, Mehdipatnam, and Lakdikapul, repeatedly transformed into waterlogged zones, significantly disrupting daily transportation and highlighting concerns regarding the city's aging infrastructure.
Recent weeks have seen multiple fatalities across Hyderabad resulting from rain-related incidents, primarily involving individuals swept away by overflowing drainage systems and flooded underpasses.
Last week, a 26-year-old individual drowned in a flooded railway underpass in the Balkampet area following heavy precipitation, according to police reports.
The India Meteorological Department's Met Centre forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall expected at isolated locations in Nirmal, Warangal, and Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri districts on September 27.
The State government has instructed all emergency response units—including GHMC, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), and Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams—to maintain high alert status to address the elevated flood risks.
