Karisma Kapoor's Children Contest "Bogus Will" in High-Stakes Inheritance Battle

In a dramatic Delhi High Court hearing, the children of actress Karisma Kapoor have claimed that Priya Kapur, widow of late businessman Sunjay Kapur, has "appropriated" family assets using an allegedly fraudulent will. Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Samaira and Kiaan Kapur, alleged that bank accounts were "wiped clean" and that the children are being denied their rightful inheritance, while the court has allowed asset details to be submitted in a sealed cover to maintain confidentiality.

Bogus Will, Denying Us Everything: Karisma Kapoor's Children In Court

Two bank accounts, according to the lawyer, had been "wiped clean".

The Sunjay Kapur assets controversy has intensified as the lawyer representing Karisma Kapoor's children has alleged that the late businessman's wife, Priya Kapur, has "appropriated" assets under the will.

During Friday's Delhi High Court hearing on Priya Kapur's petition seeking to file Sunjay Kapur's asset list in a sealed cover, Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Karisma Kapoor's children Samaira Kapur and Kiaan Raj Kapur, argued that "confidentiality is a cloak under which you fritter away the assets".

Mr Jethmalani claimed the will was fraudulent, asserting that Samaira and Kiaan are being "denied everything" and that two bank accounts had been completely emptied.

After hearing all parties, the court approved the petition to submit the details in a sealed cover.

As proceedings began, Ms Kapur's lawyer, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, requested that details shared in court remain private.

"It is up to the court if it wants to enforce it, but at least nobody should discuss the case outside court. As long as everybody agrees on an understanding that it won't be shared with the public at large, I leave it to my lady (the judge), we have to devise a way," he stated.

Mr Jethmalani opposed any media restrictions, noting that both sides had already discussed the case publicly. "They claimed that the children have a Rs 1,900-crore stake in RK trust, which has nothing to do with this case on personal assets," Mr Jethmalani added.

The RK trust, named after Sunjay Kapur's mother, Rani Kapur, is the family trust, and sources close to Karisma Kapoor had previously indicated the children have no access to these funds.

When Justice Jyoti Singh suggested that limited public disclosure would benefit both parties and inquired about maintaining confidentiality, Mr Jethmalani responded, "In this case, confidentiality is a cloak under which you fritter away the assets. This matter is something that requires confidentiality? I don't think it does. I need sunlight in this case because I have not been told about the assets."

He further alleged, "Assets under the will were appropriated by Priya Kapur to herself. According to this bogus will, I (Karisma Kapoor's children) am being denied everything. Two bank accounts have been wiped clean, and a 6% share in a company has been appropriated to the defendant."

Mr Nayar, representing Ms Kapur, requested that all parties commit to not leaking information to the media.

Justice Singh subsequently directed all parties to avoid sharing details with the media and permitted Ms Kapur to submit the asset details in a sealed cover.

The court also ordered that a copy of the will be provided to Rani Kapur, contingent upon an undertaking that it would not be leaked to the media. It further directed that the will be placed in the custody of the Registrar General of the Delhi High Court to ensure confidentiality and secure handling.
