Severe floodwater is flowing throughout the entire Golaghat district.
A second wave of flooding has struck Assam following three days of heavy rainfall, affecting more than 22,000 people and resulting in two fatalities within the past 24 hours. These deaths were recorded in Golaghat district, which is among the most severely impacted regions.
The initial flood wave in the state began in late May and lasted through June.
Various Brahmaputra tributaries, including the Dikhou, Disang, and Dhansiri rivers, have exceeded danger marks, causing extensive flooding. In southern Assam, the Barak and Kushiyara rivers are also rising above safe levels, threatening numerous communities.
Water released from the Doyang Hydro Electric Project by North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) has substantially increased water levels in the Dhansiri and Doyang rivers, leading to widespread inundation across Golaghat district.
According to reports, extensive flooding is affecting the entirety of Golaghat district.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) conducted rescue operations in Golaghat district, successfully evacuating 381 residents and 28 livestock.

In total, 4,548 people have been impacted, with 15 relief camps established to provide shelter and aid to displaced residents. Despite these efforts, the disaster response has not yet fully addressed the situation.
