PM Modi Launches Bihar's Mahila Rojgar Yojana: 75 Lakh Women Receive Rs 10,000 Each for Economic Empowerment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched Bihar's Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana on Friday, transferring Rs 10,000 each to the bank accounts of 75 lakh women across the state.

This Rs 7,500-crore initiative, implemented by Bihar's NDA government, aims to enhance women's empowerment by creating self-employment and livelihood opportunities throughout the region.

The Prime Minister conducted the launch from Delhi, while Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, and other ministers participated via video conference from Patna. Numerous women beneficiaries from across Bihar also joined the virtual event.

The timing of this scheme's introduction is noteworthy as it comes ahead of upcoming assembly elections in Bihar.

According to an official statement, "Under the scheme, financial assistance will be provided to one woman from each family, for livelihood activities of their choice, fostering economic independence and social empowerment."

Each beneficiary initially receives Rs 10,000 through direct benefit transfer, with possibilities for additional financial support up to Rs 2 lakh in later phases. Women can utilize this assistance in various sectors including agriculture, animal husbandry, handicrafts, tailoring, weaving, and other small-scale enterprises.

The statement further explained that the scheme is community-driven, where "along with financial support, community resource persons connected to self-help groups will provide training to support their (women) endeavor. To support the sale of their produce, Gramin haat bazaars will be further developed in the state."
