Jammu:
The Vaishno Devi pilgrimage at the Trikuta hills shrine in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district will recommence on Wednesday, weather conditions permitting, according to an announcement from the shrine board.
The sacred journey was halted on August 26, shortly before a significant landslide struck the path to the shrine, claiming the lives of 34 pilgrims and leaving 20 others injured.
"Jai Mata Di...Vaishno Devi Yatra shall resume from September 17, 2025 (Wednesday), subject to favourable weather conditions. Devotees are requested to stay updated through official communication channels," stated the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) in a message posted on X.
The resumption decision comes just two days after pilgrims demonstrated at the Katra base camp, demanding that authorities allow the pilgrimage to continue.
Previously, the shrine board had planned to restart the yatra on September 14, but continuous rainfall forced an extension of the suspension. This triggered protests from some devotees who repeatedly attempted to breach security cordons and proceed with the pilgrimage despite the shrine board's directives.
