Delhi's Navratri Processions' DJ Row Leads To Man Getting Stabbed; 2 Arrested

A fight that broke out between two groups over overtaking and who would play louder music saw one man getting stabbed in a central Delhi area, police said Wednesday.

New Delhi:

A dispute erupted between two groups over overtaking and competing with loud music, resulting in one man being stabbed in central Delhi, police reported on Wednesday.

The altercation occurred on Monday when two Navratri processions were returning from Kalkaji in south Delhi. The confrontation took place near the Gandhi Museum on MG Road as they were heading toward the Seelampur area in northeast Delhi.

"The complainant informed police that his group had been carrying the religious flame when another group attempted to overtake them," stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan.

During their journey, the two groups engaged in a competition over who could play louder music and who should have priority on the road.

Near the Gandhi Museum, the situation escalated into a violent clash, resulting in one man sustaining stab wounds to his chest and back, while another person who reported the incident to police suffered minor injuries.

Both victims were immediately transported to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital in a police vehicle.

The DCP mentioned that the case was registered at the IP Estate Police Station, and a team was formed to examine CCTV footage from ITO to Rajghat and conduct local investigations.

Authorities discovered that the perpetrators were from Khajoori Khas in northeast Delhi.

Police carried out raids in the area, arresting 21-year-old Kanhaiya alias Vivek, who works as a food delivery agent, and apprehending a 17-year-old juvenile.

A knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered from Kanhaiya's possession.

During interrogation, Kanhaiya admitted his involvement but claimed he was struck first and had only retaliated.

According to police, Kanhaiya has been employed as a delivery partner since last year.
