Nagpur:
A video that has gone viral from Nagpur depicts an under-construction flyover passing through the balcony of a residential building, sparking questions about urban development planning.
On Tuesday, a representative from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) informed PTI that the balcony is situated in an encroached area, and they have requested the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to have it removed.
The homeowner, meanwhile, asserted that while the flyover beam passes through the balcony, it doesn't make contact with the building itself and poses no safety risk.
Several videos have appeared on social media platforms showing a section of the Indora-Dighori flyover under construction cutting past a residential building at Ashok Square in Nagpur.
The homeowner explained that a portion of the flyover's rotary beam passes through the balcony without touching the building structure.
He stated that this section occupies the unused "no man's land" portion of the balcony that serves no practical purpose.
According to the homeowner, the flyover road sits 14 to 15 feet above the balcony, and he has no concerns about it, insisting there are no safety issues.
The NHAI official stated that part of the house is built on encroached land, and a flange section of the rotary beam passes through the balcony.
"Our flyover does not intrude into the outer balcony area. The balcony in question is situated in an encroached area, and we have already communicated with the NMC to remove the encroachment," the official explained.
The encroachment will be removed in the near future, the official added.
A senior NMC official mentioned that the building in question was previously leased to the landowner.
The authorities will investigate the current status of the lease, and appropriate action to vacate the premises is expected following proper procedures, the official noted.
