IndiGo Issues Travel Advisory for Foggy Conditions Affecting North and East India Flights

IndiGo has released a travel advisory warning passengers about expected foggy conditions across North and East India that may cause flight delays and reduced visibility. The airline is implementing safety measures with airport teams prepared to assist travelers, who are advised to plan extra time for airport commutes and check flight status before departure. This comes as Delhi also faces very poor air quality, compounding transportation challenges.

IndiGo Issues Advisory Amid Dense Fog In North, East India

IndiGo released a travel advisory on Tuesday evening in anticipation of foggy conditions expected Wednesday morning.

New Delhi:

IndiGo airline issued a travel advisory Tuesday night warning passengers about foggy conditions forecast for Wednesday morning across North and East India, which could significantly impact flight operations with reduced visibility and slower movement of aircraft.

The airline shared on their X platform: "As the morning approaches under misty winter skies, fog is predicted across parts of North and East India, which may lead to reduced visibility and a slower pace of flight movements during the early hours. In the interest of safety, some flights may experience delays or adjustments."

Safety precautions are being implemented by IndiGo, with potential flight delays or schedule modifications. "Our teams across airports are fully prepared and working in close coordination to manage schedules smoothly, assist customers, and maintain a steady flow of operations."

Travelers are encouraged to plan accordingly by allocating extra time for airport travel and checking current flight information via IndiGo's official website or mobile application. The carrier's staff are diligently working to maintain schedule efficiency, provide customer assistance, and ensure operational continuity.

"Foggy conditions may also impact road traffic, with slower movement and longer travel times expected while commuting to the airport. Customers travelling early are advised to plan with additional buffer time and check the latest flight status on our website or app before leaving home," IndiGo further stated.

Road transportation is also likely to be affected, with increased travel duration anticipated. IndiGo expressed gratitude for customers' understanding as they navigate through the challenging weather conditions, noting that visibility should improve as the day progresses.

"Thank you for your patience and continued trust as we work steadily through the early hours, with visibility expected to improve as the day progresses," the airline added in their X post.

This advisory comes amid widespread fog affecting flight operations in the national capital.

Earlier Tuesday morning, Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport issued its own fog advisory, alerting passengers to possible flight disruptions due to limited visibility. In a statement released around 6:06 am, Delhi Airport indicated that flight operations were "steadily recovering," but warned that some flights might still experience disruptions.

The airport authorities recommended passengers contact their airlines directly for accurate schedule updates. Delhi Airport also mentioned that additional staff had been deployed throughout terminals to assist travelers. "We appreciate your cooperation and understanding," the airport stated.

The situation is compounded by worsening air quality in Delhi. The capital continued experiencing hazardous pollution levels, with the city's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) measuring 378 around 8 am on Tuesday, categorized as 'very poor' according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data.

The combination of dense fog and poor air quality has severely limited visibility during early morning hours, disrupting air traffic and prompting both airlines and airport authorities to issue multiple advisories urging passengers to remain alert and adjust their travel plans accordingly.
