Jaipur:

A tragic leopard attack claimed the life of a 7-year-old boy near Atila Balaji temple in Ranthambore, Sawai Madhopur district, on Thursday.

Vikram Banjara, the young victim, was holding his father's hand when suddenly a leopard emerged from nearby bushes near a handpump, seized the child by his neck, and pulled him away.

While the father initially reported that his son was taken by a tiger, Forest Department officials have confirmed the predator was actually a leopard. The father, shocked by the sudden attack, immediately called for assistance. Residents from the neighboring Banjara settlement rushed to help, throwing stones into the bushes. After searching, they discovered the boy's body deep within the forest area.

The attack occurred near the Banjara settlement, home to 25-30 families. Following the incident, the family refused to accept their child's remains. District Collector Kanaram and Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar Beniwal arrived at the scene and are attempting to console the grieving family.

Ramjilal Banjara, Vikram's father, recounted the horrifying experience: "My son was walking alongside me. He fell slightly behind, and suddenly a tiger emerged from the bushes, grabbed him in its jaws, and carried him away. I chased after it and shouted for help."

According to community members, the predator dragged the child approximately 150 meters into the dense vegetation.

DFO Manas Singh stated, "This incident is truly tragic. The family will receive all possible support from government authorities. We have confirmed that the attack was definitely by a leopard. The child was taken from near the handpump close to the temple, with the leopard grabbing him by the neck."

After meeting with the family at the mortuary, Collector Kanaram assured that the administration is dedicated to providing every form of assistance possible.

The family has alleged an ongoing dispute with the Forest Department regarding wall construction in the area, claiming the department is attempting to forcibly build a barrier.

Kotwali Police Station Officer Madanlal Meena has arrived at the location, and efforts continue to comfort the distressed family.
