A photo has emerged capturing the moment when the Luthra brothers were detained in their hotel room in Thailand following a request from Indian authorities. Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra are wanted in India regarding a devastating fire at their owned nightclub in Goa. The tragic incident at 'Birch by Romeo Lane' club in Arpora village early Sunday morning claimed at least 25 lives.
The Luthras escaped from India shortly after the tragedy, anticipating arrest as investigations brought them into focus. These Delhi-based restaurateurs approached a Delhi court through their legal representative seeking anticipatory bail, arguing they couldn't be held responsible since they weren't present at the nightclub during the incident.
When the court refused to stay their arrest, Goa Police requested assistance from the Indian government to bring them back to face justice. The government strategically used passport regulations to apprehend the brothers. Under Section 10A of the Passport Act, authorities suspended their passports, creating immigration complications for them.
Additionally, Interpol issued separate blue corner notices on Tuesday, identifying the Luthra brothers as suspects in alleged violations of nightclub operation regulations.
Thailand immigration authorities subsequently detained the brothers in their hotel room. The recent photo shows them with their hands bound while immigration officers searched through their possessions. Earlier images showed them with zip-tied hands, holding their passports beside a local officer.
Indian authorities are expected to return the Luthras to India within 24 hours to face charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and negligence.
The fire tragedy claimed at least 25 lives and injured six others, shocking the coastal state during its peak tourist season. The fire erupted after midnight during a musical event at the nightclub. Approximately 100 people, primarily tourists, were present at the time. Electric firecrackers are believed to have ignited the fire.
The extensive use of flammable decorative materials transformed the club into a death trap. Investigators discovered alarming violations of fire safety regulations, including non-functional fire extinguishers, raising serious questions about the club management's responsibility.
