External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with US Ambassador to India-designate Sergio Gor on Monday during the United Nations General Assembly session.

New York:
India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar engaged with US Ambassador to India-designate Sergio Gor on Monday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session, with both officials expressing commitment to advancing the bilateral partnership.
"US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia and Ambassador Nominee to India Sergio Gor met with India's External Affairs Minister Jaishankar on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly," according to a statement from the State Department Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs.
"They look forward to further promoting the success of the US-India relationship," the statement added.
Earlier that day, Minister Jaishankar also held discussions with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, addressing various bilateral and international issues described as being of "current concern."
This meeting at Lotte New York Palace during the 80th UN General Assembly session marked their first in-person interaction following President Donald Trump's decision to impose an additional 25 percent tariff on India due to Delhi's Russian oil purchases, bringing total tariffs on India to 50 percent.
"Good to meet @SecRubio this morning in New York. Our conversation covered a range of bilateral and international issues of current concern. Agreed on the importance of sustained engagement to progress on priority areas. We will remain in touch," Jaishankar posted on social media.
The officials had previously met in Washington DC in July for the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting. Coinciding with their latest meeting, India and the US are scheduled to hold discussions aimed at reaching an early conclusion on a trade agreement.
Minister Jaishankar arrived in New York on Sunday for the high-level UNGA week and is set to participate in numerous bilateral and multilateral meetings. He will deliver India's national statement at the General Debate from the iconic green UNGA podium on September 27.
