Agra:
Police have apprehended a man for allegedly murdering his nephew by strangulation, placing the body in a drum, and incinerating it in Agra's Malpura district after being blackmailed with photographs of his underage daughter, authorities announced on Tuesday.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Atul Sharma, the crime occurred on February 18 last year. The suspect, Deviram, was taken into custody on Monday after the partially incinerated remains were identified through DNA profiling.
The victim, Rakesh, approximately 19 years old at the time of the incident, was lured to Deviram's shop where he and another nephew, Nitya Kishore, allegedly strangled him to death.
The two suspects reportedly placed the corpse into a blue drum, transported it to a secluded location using a loader vehicle, and set it on fire after dousing it with petrol.
Subsequently, law enforcement identified the partially burned remains through DNA analysis and solved the case.
Authorities stated that the accused perpetrated the crime due to his anger toward Rakesh, who allegedly captured images of Deviram's underage daughter and used them for blackmail purposes.
The primary suspect, Deviram, son of Shankar Singh Baghel from Kuboolpur village within the Malpura police jurisdiction, has been arrested, while Kishore remains at large. Investigators revealed that the victim's mobile device was disposed of in the Khari River following the murder.
A comprehensive investigation into the matter continues.
