A group of Dalit men were allegedly assaulted when they attempted to enter a temple during a religious procession in Rajasthan's Churu district, according to police statements released on Monday.

The incident, which took place at Sadasar village on Sunday, triggered protests outside the local police station the following day.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Kanaram Meghwal, the confrontation occurred Sunday evening during a religious procession that followed the conclusion of a 'Bhagwat Katha' event.
The 'shobhayatra' (ceremonial procession) was moving from the recital venue toward a nearby temple when Meghwal and several companions attempted to enter the shrine for 'darshan' (worship). At this point, they were reportedly blocked by several villagers, including individuals identified as Surdas Swami, Shankarlal, Himmat Kumar, and Anil, as stated in the FIR.
In his complaint, Meghwal alleged that the accused prevented them from entering the temple specifically because of their Dalit identity, and subsequently physically assaulted them.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Satyanarayan Godara offered a different perspective, stating there was congestion at the temple entrance, and Meghwal's group was asked to wait, which led to an argument erupting between the two parties.
"A case has been registered against four persons who are currently absconding. A search operation is underway to locate them," the DSP confirmed.
