A disturbing incident has been reported in Madhya Pradesh's Khandwa, where graves in a Muslim cemetery were found tampered with. On Monday morning, two graves at the city's large cemetery in Bada Awar were discovered to have been disturbed. One belonged to a woman recently buried, while the other grave's occupant remains unidentified. Authorities are now inspecting other graves to determine if more have been tampered with.
The discovery triggered outrage among community members. A substantial crowd gathered at the site, including the grieving family, City Qazi Syed Nisar Ali, and officers from Kotwali police station. The woman's grave was subsequently restored in the presence of her relatives.
CCTV cameras installed in the cemetery captured footage of two naked men wandering near the graves at night. One suspect was seen climbing a pole and attempting to cover a CCTV camera with a shroud, apparently trying to conceal their activities. Police have seized the DVR and initiated an investigation into the case.
This incident has raised significant concerns as it follows a similar occurrence at the same Bada Kabristan just four months earlier. On May 20th, during the new moon night, six graves were found open across two cemeteries, including three belonging to women. Those graves had been disturbed by removing the floor near the feet, and the burial shrouds had been tampered with. This earlier incident had prompted the community to install CCTV cameras for enhanced security.
City Qazi Syed Nisar Ali strongly condemned the latest incident, describing it as "an act that deeply hurts religious sentiments," and called for the rapid apprehension and severe punishment of those responsible.
CSP Abhinav Barange confirmed that police are currently analyzing the CCTV footage and have launched a search operation to locate and apprehend the suspects.
