MBA Graduate Turns to Phone Snatching: Delhi Police Arrest Unemployed Man with Multiple Stolen Devices

Police apprehended a suspect following intelligence information near the railway line area.

A qualified MBA graduate from a prestigious institution has been arrested in the Dwarka area of southwest Delhi after allegedly resorting to phone snatching. Authorities recovered seven stolen mobile phones and a lifted scooter from his possession, according to police statements released on Tuesday.

The apprehended individual, identified as Pradeep Kumar Malik (also known as Rahul), resides in Palam. Despite holding an MBA qualification from a reputable university, he is currently without employment and has developed a substance dependency, according to a senior police official.

His arrest occurred on November 20 after law enforcement established surveillance near the railway line at DDA Park.

Police reports indicate that numerous snatching incidents involving a perpetrator on a scooter had been documented in the Dwarka South region. In their investigation, officers examined footage from more than 300 CCTV cameras and activated their network of local informants to locate the suspect.

Following intelligence information, police officers intercepted the suspect near the railway area. When instructed to halt, he reportedly attempted to escape but was successfully apprehended after a brief pursuit, according to the officer's statement.

During subsequent questioning, Malik revealed that he had stolen a scooter from the Dabri neighborhood and had concealed the snatched mobile phones in its storage compartment.

Based on his information, authorities recovered five mobile phones connected to reported snatching incidents in Dwarka South and Palam Village, along with the stolen scooter. Two additional phones found in his possession have not yet been linked to any registered complaints, according to police.

Officials noted that Malik has no prior criminal history, and investigations are continuing into the matter.
