"PM Modi Hard Taskmaster When It Comes To Public Good": Amit Shah To NDTV

In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Union Home Minister Amit Shah offered insights into Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership style, challenging common perceptions about the Prime Minister's demeanor.

Speaking with NDTV CEO and Editor-In-Chief Rahul Kanwal, Shah, who has been one of PM Modi's closest associates for decades, described Modi as an "excellent listener" during meetings and when receiving feedback.

When questioned about whether the Prime Minister is overly strict, Shah clarified that this is merely a perception that has developed. "I have not seen a more patient listener than him. In meetings, since he is the leader, he always speaks last. In cabinet sessions, regardless of the department under discussion, he ensures all ministers have the opportunity to express their views," Shah explained.

The Home Minister emphasized the transparent nature of cabinet proceedings, noting that "ministers speak openly and decisions are made transparently." He highlighted that input is regularly solicited not only from ministers but also from various parliamentary committees, with adjustments made accordingly.

"Opposition leaders' views are considered in all important changes. We've referred legislation to joint committees or standing committees of parliament, whether regarding the three laws, income tax reforms, or the 130th constitutional amendment," Shah elaborated.

According to Shah, this reflective process leads to well-considered decisions. "Based on this reflection, mature decisions are made. And even after a decision is taken, if changes become necessary, I've never seen Modi ji hesitate to make them. This is because, above all, the country's interests and the convenience of its citizens are his primary concern," he stated.

When asked about the perception that Prime Minister Modi is a hard taskmaster, Shah acknowledged this characteristic but contextualized it: "It depends on the nature of the task. If the task involves the welfare of the nation's people, national security, or economic progress... then yes, he should be a hard taskmaster. He consistently works diligently for the country's welfare. And that's exactly what he should do."
