Jailed Actor Darshan Accused Of Harassing Inmate In Prison

Bengaluru:

Imprisoned Kannada film star Darshan is now facing allegations of mentally and physically tormenting his co-accused in the fan murder case while detained together at Bengaluru Central Prison, according to sources revealed on Monday.

Prison authorities have noted a significant shift in Darshan's demeanor over time, particularly after officials restricted his special privileges. Reports suggest that Darshan has been physically assaulting co-accused individuals by kicking them during sleep and addressing them disrespectfully.

The alleged mistreatment has become so severe that two of Darshan's associates, Jagadish and Anukumar, have requested transfers to Chitradurga prison to escape the situation.

Tensions have also emerged between Darshan and his co-accused regarding legal representation decisions. These disagreements culminated in a confrontation between Darshan and co-accused Jagadish, also known as Jagga, approximately two days ago.

Sources indicate that Darshan has grown increasingly agitated following the implementation of stricter regulations within the prison after IAS officer Anshu Kumar assumed the position of Chief Superintendent.

Under these new protocols, Darshan must now personally queue for meals and is required to maintain cleanliness of toilet facilities himself.

Prison officials have implemented enhanced security measures in the barracks housing Darshan and his associates, including installation of CCTV surveillance and additional physical barriers, according to sources.

Darshan, Pavithra Gowda, and 15 other individuals were apprehended on June 11, 2024, on charges related to the abduction and brutal killing of Renukaswamy, a fan from Chitradurga.

Renukaswamy had allegedly sent inappropriate and offensive messages to Pavithra Gowda, expressing anger about Darshan's relationship with her despite his marital status.

Following the emergence of photographs suggesting preferential treatment at Bengaluru Central Prison, Darshan was transferred to Ballari Prison.

Currently, he faces three separate FIRs connected to the case.

On September 4, 2024, police submitted a comprehensive 3,991-page chargesheet along with supplementary documentation to the court.

Darshan was released from incarceration on October 30, 2024, after 131 days in custody. However, following an appeal by Karnataka Police, the Supreme Court revoked his bail, resulting in the re-arrest of Darshan, his partner Pavithra Gowda, and others involved.

A Karnataka local court has formalized charges against the imprisoned Kannada superstar Darshan, his partner Pavithra Gowda, and 15 additional individuals in connection with the high-profile fan murder case. All accused parties have denied the allegations against them.

Darshan faces murder charges under IPC Section 302, infliction of fatal injuries under Section 355, criminal conspiracy under Section 120-B, attempted evidence destruction under Section 204, and kidnapping under Section 359.

Additional charges include illegal assembly under Sections 143, 147, 148, and 149, among other offenses.
