India Asks Citizens To Use 'Due Discretion' While Travelling To China

Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal addressed questions regarding the recent incident involving an Indian traveler.

New Delhi:

On Monday, India issued an advisory urging its citizens to exercise caution when traveling to or through China.

This recommendation follows an incident from two weeks prior, where an Indian woman from Arunachal Pradesh was detained at Shanghai airport during a transit stop after Chinese authorities refused to accept her Indian passport as valid.

"We expect Chinese authorities to provide assurances that Indian citizens transiting through Chinese airports will not face selective targeting, arbitrary detention, or harassment, and that international air travel regulations will be respected by the Chinese side," stated External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

Jaiswal was responding to inquiries about the November 21 incident involving the woman from Arunachal Pradesh.

"The Ministry of External Affairs would advise Indian nationals to exercise due discretion while travelling to or transiting through China," Jaiswal emphasized.
