A musical evening at a Goa nightclub ended in tragedy on Sunday night.
The family of Diganta Patir, a 22-year-old cook from Assam who perished in the devastating fire at 'Birch by Romeo Lane' nightclub in Goa, has requested government assistance to repatriate his remains. Diganta was among the 25 victims of the catastrophic incident, which also claimed the lives of at least five tourists.
Thaneswar Patir, Diganta's grandfather, informed NDTV that his grandson had relocated to Goa last year. "We heard he was performing well in his role as a cook at the establishment. Around 5-6 am, we received the devastating news of his passing. His mother and younger brother have no means to transport his body back home. We appeal to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for assistance. We are confident he will support us," he stated.
Diganta's family faces significant financial hardship. His brother works in Kerala, while his mother and aunt reside in their village in Assam's Dhemaji district. With their limited financial resources, the family cannot afford to bring his body back to their hometown.
Two additional victims from Assam, Rahul Tanti and Manojit Mal from Cachar, also lost their lives in the nightclub fire. Both were employees at the establishment.

The musical event at the nightclub turned deadly on Sunday night, resulting in 25 fatalities and numerous injuries. Video footage captured massive flames and smoke engulfing the venue. Another recording shows a dancer performing to the Sholay hit 'Mehbooba Mehbooba' when flames initially appear on the ceiling.
Although the exact cause of the fire remains unconfirmed, fireworks during a musical performance are believed to have ignited the blaze.
Authorities have registered a case involving culpable homicide not amounting to murder, negligence, and actions endangering public safety.
Four nightclub staff members have been arrested, including the manager. The venue's promoters, Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, remain at large. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that a police team has been dispatched to Delhi to locate them.
