The university community maintains non-cooperation until official action is taken.

Centre To Probe Tezpur University Vice Chancellor As Protest Continues

Guwahati: Students at Tezpur University in Assam have received informal written confirmation from the Centre regarding an upcoming investigation into allegations against Vice-Chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh.

Despite this preliminary acknowledgment, the protest movement—now exceeding 80 days—continues unabated, with students, faculty, and non-teaching staff maintaining their unified stance.

The protesters insist on receiving an official, formal notification from the Ministry of Education and concrete actions before they will consider ending their demonstration.

According to the handwritten communication, Shambhu Nath Singh will be stripped of his administrative authority over the university. The letter also promises a time-bound investigation addressing all allegations raised.

Nevertheless, the university community has collectively decided to persist with complete non-compliance and non-cooperation until they receive a formal, concrete agreement through official channels.

In a related development, the Joint Director has informed stakeholders that the current arrangement—with Professor Dhruba K Bhattacharya serving as acting Vice-Chancellor—will remain in place until further notice.

The university crisis intensified significantly after an RTI (Right to Information) response revealed that numerous essential documents concerning Shambhu Nath Singh's appointment and academic credentials are "not available in the office."

This revelation emerged while the university has been effectively paralyzed for over two months due to extensive protests from students and faculty calling for Singh's removal from office.
