New Delhi:

On Sunday, IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers announced that the airline would be operating approximately 1,650 flights that day, stating, "step by step, we are getting back."

Recent days have seen hundreds of flight cancellations and delays, causing significant inconvenience to thousands of passengers. The country's largest airline, which typically operates around 2,300 daily flights, managed about 1,500 flights on Saturday, up from just over 700 on Friday.

In an internal video message addressed to staff, Elbers mentioned that the airline's On Time Performance (OTP) was expected to reach 75 percent on Sunday.

"Today, we have realized further improvements of the system in order to reach around 1,650 flights," he stated.

The CEO delivered this message from the airline's operational control center.

"We have been able to execute the cancellations at an earlier stage so that the customers do not show up at the airport in case their flights are cancelled," Elbers explained.

According to IndiGo, 137 out of their 138 destinations were operational on December 7.
