Mumbai Airport Introduces Extra Measures To Cope With IndiGo Cancellations

Passengers at Mumbai Airport are receiving dedicated care from the airport management team during the ongoing disruptions.

Amid continuing disruptions across the IndiGo network, Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) reported 146 flight cancellations by 8 PM on Saturday, comprising 70 arrivals and 76 departures. IndiGo typically operates approximately 400 daily flights from this major hub.

CSMIA, one of India's busiest airports, is experiencing significant pressure due to these disruptions, as IndiGo operates the largest number of flights from this facility. The airport management has established a dedicated team to assist passengers facing extended wait times and to minimize their difficulties. A specialized task force has been formed specifically to address the major logistical challenge of retrieving passenger baggage following hundreds of cancellations.

Mumbai Airport has implemented comprehensive initiatives to support stranded travelers affected by flight cancellations and operational issues. These measures aim to enhance passenger comfort, provide accurate information, and ensure efficient logistics management during this challenging period. By 8 PM Saturday, IndiGo had cancelled nearly 37% of its flights from the airport.

To improve passenger comfort and amenities, additional seating has been placed throughout both terminals, ensuring ample resting areas for waiting travelers. Complimentary refreshments are being provided to stranded passengers to ease their waiting experience. Extra Terminal Managers and Customer Service Executives have been deployed at both terminals to facilitate passenger movement and address their needs promptly.

The airport has instructed all concessionaires and outlets to maintain sufficient food and beverage supplies for passenger convenience, while actively monitoring product pricing to ensure fairness.

For passenger assistance and information, dedicated terminal gates have been established to expedite the exit process for travelers affected by cancellations. These gates are staffed by Airport Terminal Operations personnel, airline representatives, and CISF security to streamline the process. A 24/7 information help desk provides timely updates to passengers requiring support.

Flight Information Display Systems are being updated regularly with the latest available information from airlines to keep passengers informed despite limited updates. Additionally, Mumbai Airport's medical team remains on standby around the clock to provide assistance to any passenger requiring medical attention.

Enhanced cleanliness and sanitation measures include the deployment of additional housekeeping staff to maintain terminal cleanliness and promptly clear garbage. Special attention is being given to passenger facilities, with continuous cleaning of female toilets and baby care facilities to maintain proper hygiene standards despite increased passenger volume.

The airport has established a dedicated baggage retrieval taskforce comprising Terminal Operations staff from both terminals, Airport Baggage Operations, MIAL Security, CISF, and IndiGo Airline representatives. This team focuses on retrieving checked-in baggage from cancelled flights and ensuring prompt processing to minimize passenger inconvenience.

Regarding airside support, the airport team is actively working to obtain clearer updates and manage operations effectively despite challenges such as stand availability and scheduling issues caused by flight uncertainties, frequent rescheduling, and limited information.

Special parking arrangements have been made to accommodate approximately 25 grounded IndiGo aircraft, despite space constraints at Mumbai Airport.

For improved landside management, additional traffic marshals have been deployed to ensure smooth passenger movement at the Multi-Level Car Parking facility and terminal exit points.

CSMIA authorities advise all passengers to verify their flight status before heading to the airport. The Adani OneApp provides real-time information to help passengers booked on IndiGo plan their travel or search for alternatives.

Passengers traveling through Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Mangalore, and Guwahati airports can access real-time flight updates through the Adani OneApp or by visiting the website www.adanione.com to check flight status before departing for the airport.
