NSE, BSE To Conduct 1-Hour Diwali Special Trading On October 21

New Delhi:
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will host a special Muhurat trading session on Tuesday, October 21, in celebration of Diwali, as announced by the exchanges on Monday.
According to separate circulars issued by both bourses, this symbolic trading session is scheduled to take place from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm.
This represents a shift from last year when the special Muhurat trading was conducted from 6 pm to 7 pm.
The session marks the commencement of Vikram Samvat 2082, the new Hindu calendar year beginning on Diwali. There is a traditional belief that trading during this 'Muhurat' or auspicious hour brings prosperity and financial growth to participants.
While regular trading will be suspended on Diwali, this special one-hour window will be available for investors.
The exchanges further announced that a pre-opening session will be held from 1:30 pm to 1:45 pm.
Market experts have observed that Diwali is traditionally viewed as an auspicious time to initiate new ventures, with many investors believing that participation in Muhurat trading brings year-long prosperity.
Despite this, analysts note that the brief one-hour trading window typically experiences significant volatility. They emphasize that the session holds greater symbolic importance rather than offering immediate financial gains.
As per the circulars released by the exchanges, trading will be available across multiple segments including equity, commodity derivatives, currency derivatives, equity futures & options, and securities lending & borrowing (SLB) during this special time slot.
