SpiceJet has announced it will operate 100 additional flights in the coming days to help alleviate the crisis caused by IndiGo's widespread flight disruptions.

New Delhi:

As IndiGo faces significant operational challenges nationwide, SpiceJet Chairman & Managing Director Ajay Singh has confirmed that his airline is stepping in to assist affected passengers by introducing 100 additional flights over the next several days.

Singh described the situation as "extremely unfortunate" and acknowledged the "huge amount of inconvenience" being experienced by travelers. "I am sure the government is working really hard to ensure the problem is resolved at the earliest, and I believe IndiGo is doing its best to address the issues," he stated.

The SpiceJet chief expressed support for the government's decision to establish a committee to investigate the matter. Speaking to ANI, he emphasized the importance of identifying the root causes behind the flight delays and cancellations to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Earlier today, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) released a statement indicating that IndiGo has requested temporary exemptions from certain Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) provisions for its A320 fleet until February 10, 2026. The airline has assured authorities that operational stability will be fully restored by this date.

IndiGo has been experiencing an unprecedented surge in flight cancellations, with approximately 170-200 flights being cancelled daily - significantly higher than normal operations.

According to recent reports, over 500 IndiGo flights were either delayed or cancelled on Friday alone, causing substantial disruption to travel plans for thousands of passengers across the country.

The Delhi Airport advisory has confirmed that all IndiGo flights scheduled to depart from Delhi Airport on Friday have been cancelled until midnight, while operations for other airlines continue to proceed as scheduled.
