Singapore High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, became one of thousands of passengers affected by IndiGo's widespread flight disruptions. Wong had planned to attend his staff member's wedding in Deoghar, Jharkhand, but was unable to make it when his flight was cancelled.
Sharing his frustration on social media platform X, Wong wrote: "I joined the tens of thousands of passengers stranded by Indigo. My flight to Deoghar has been cancelled. My sincere apologies to my young staff waiting for me to attend his Shaadi. Lost for words. HC Wong."
Along with his post, Wong shared two images - one showing preparations at his staff member's wedding ceremony and another displaying the cancellation message from IndiGo. The airline's message stated: "We sincerely regret to inform you that your IndiGo PNR for the upcoming flight has been cancelled due to recent disruptions."
IndiGo promised a complete refund would be processed within 3 to 5 days and apologized for the inconvenience caused.
Just a week earlier, Wong had attended another staff member's wedding in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, where he participated in the celebrations, posed for photographs with the couple and their relatives, and enjoyed traditional Indian food.
The disruptions at IndiGo have now continued into their fourth consecutive day, resulting in over 550 cancelled domestic and international flights. The cancellations included 104 flights at Mumbai airport, 225 at Delhi airport, 102 in Bengaluru, 92 in Hyderabad, and at least five at Bhopal airport.
The airline has warned passengers that additional flights may be cancelled in the coming days as they work to stabilize their schedule. Beginning December 8, IndiGo will intentionally operate fewer flights to prevent further complications and normalize their operations.
IndiGo, which typically operates approximately 2,300 flights daily and is recognized for its punctuality, saw its on-time performance drop dramatically to just 19.7 percent on Wednesday, down from Tuesday's already low 35 percent.
The airline has informed India's aviation regulator DGCA that it expects operations to fully stabilize by February 10 of next year.
