Dighi Port functions as a critical gateway for Maharashtra's landlocked industrial corridors.
Ahmedabad:
Motherson, through its joint venture Samvardhana Motherson Hamakyorex Engineered Logistics Ltd (SAMRX), announced on Friday a strategic agreement with Dighi Port Limited (DPL), an Adani Ports subsidiary, to establish a dedicated automotive export facility at Dighi Port in Maharashtra, marking a transformative development in India's automotive logistics sector.
As one of the 15 strategic ports under APSEZ's portfolio, Dighi Port will now enhance its capabilities to support the growing automotive industry under the 'Make in India' initiative, facilitating efficient export and import operations for vehicles destined for global markets.
Ashwani Gupta, CEO and Whole time Director of Adani Ports, stated, "By integrating APSEZ's comprehensive infrastructure capabilities with Motherson's specialized expertise, we are developing a seamless, resilient network for vehicle transportation across India. This RoRo (Roll on and Roll off) terminal will accelerate trade, enhance supply chain efficiency, and deliver substantial long-term value to our customers and the communities we serve."
This collaboration will transform Dighi Port into the premier automobile exports terminal serving exporters from Mumbai to the Pune automotive manufacturing belt, according to company officials.
Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, Vice Chairman of Motherson Group, emphasized that "this partnership with APSEZ represents a significant advancement in our mission to provide integrated, world-class logistics solutions to the automotive industry." He further noted that developing the RoRo terminal at Dighi Port would enhance their service portfolio while creating a strategic asset that boosts efficiency and reduces logistics costs for their OEM partners, ultimately strengthening India's automotive supply chain and delivering tangible value to customers.
The new RoRo terminal will feature cutting-edge infrastructure designed to manage end-to-end Finished Vehicle (FV) logistics, streamlining operations for major automotive manufacturers.
SAMRX plans to invest in the terminal to vertically integrate its services, offering a comprehensive logistics solution with complete 360-degree cargo visibility throughout the supply chain.
Dighi Port serves as a crucial gateway for Maharashtra's landlocked industrial corridors and heartland, providing closed warehouses, tank farms, and open stockyards for various commodity storage needs.
With its current cargo handling capacity of 633 million tonnes per annum, APSEZ manages approximately 28 percent of India's total port volumes and has set an ambitious target of reaching one billion tonnes throughput by 2030.
