Bihar Wedding Turns Chaotic Over Rasgulla Shortage: Families Clash and Wedding Cancelled

An unfortunate wedding event in Bihar's Bodh Gaya turned into a chaotic confrontation between the families of the bride and groom over a shortage of rasgulla sweets. CCTV footage captured family members and guests from both sides engaged in physical altercations, exchanging punches, pushing each other, and some even wielding red plastic chairs as improvised weapons.

According to police reports, following the cancellation of the wedding due to the fight, the bride's family filed a dowry case against the groom's side.

The incident occurred at a hotel in Bodh Gaya on November 29, where the bride's family was staying. The groom and his relatives had arrived from a nearby village.

Police stated that after the completion of wedding rituals, the bride's family created a disturbance due to insufficient rasgulla. CCTV footage showed people initially gathered peacefully near food stalls before the situation suddenly escalated into a group confrontation, with individuals grabbing available items like chairs and plates to attack others.

Many participants from both families sustained injuries during the brawl. The incident began as the couple was en route to a wedding hall following the completion of rituals.

On Wednesday, the groom's father, Mahendra Prasad, confirmed that the shortage of rasgullas triggered the fight. He claimed the bride's family subsequently filed a false dowry case.

Despite the groom's family's willingness to proceed with the wedding, the bride's family decided against continuing with the ceremony.

Munni Devi, the groom's mother, alleged that during the altercation, the bride's family took the jewelry she had brought as gifts. The groom's family also mentioned they had arranged the hotel booking.

"We attempted to negotiate with the bride's family to continue with the wedding, but our efforts were unsuccessful," stated Sushil Kumar, the groom's cousin.
