In a development set to add chaos to Parliament proceedings during the ongoing Winter Session, a senior Congress leader's thoughtless social media post depicting Prime Minister Narendra Modi selling tea has ignited a major controversy.
Late last night, Congress leader Ragini Nayak shared an AI-generated video showing the Prime Minister walking with a kettle and glasses at what appears to be a global event.
The Prime Minister has previously mentioned that his father operated a tea stall at Vadnagar station in Gujarat, and he assisted him during his childhood. Prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha election, in which he guided the BJP to a decisive victory, Congress veteran Mani Shankar Aiyar had ridiculed Narendra Modi's modest background and claimed he would never achieve the highest office. Prime Minister Modi is currently serving his third term.
A decade after Aiyar's comment, Congress leader Nayak has made another distasteful 'chai' remark about the Prime Minister, eliciting a strong reaction from the BJP.
Senior BJP leader CR Kesavan stated that Nayak's post "exposes the depraved mindset of the Congress leadership". "This disgusting tweet by the Congress is a grievous insult to the 140 crore hardworking meritorious Indians and it is a direct attack by the Congress on the OBC community," he declared.
"The Congress leadership and Rahul Gandhi resent that the people of India continue to bless and select PM Narendra Modi ji who has risen through dedication and hard work in contrast to the arrogant and entitled Rahul Gandhi, who has been repeatedly rejected by the public. The Congress party consistently offends when it comes to insulting PM Modi and even his late mother. The people of India will deliver a punitive lesson to the degenerate Congress," Kesavan remarked.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said "Naamdar Congress cannot stand a Kamdar PM from the OBC community who has come from a poor background". "They mocked his Chaiwala background earlier too. They abused him 150 times. They abused his mother in Bihar. People will never forgive them," he posted on X.
The Congress leader's post has emerged at the beginning of what will likely be a contentious Winter Session. The Centre has prepared an extensive list of legislative agenda, but the Opposition is attempting to challenge the government on key issues such as Special Intensive Revision of voter lists in several states.
