Health officials have confirmed that two elderly women sustained severe facial injuries following an attack by a stray dog in Kerala.
In Thiruvananthapuram on Monday, a stray dog attacked two elderly women, resulting in significant facial trauma for both victims.
Masooda, aged 70, was walking outside her residence in the Mastanmukku residential area of Kaniyapuram when the dog suddenly attacked her without any provocation.
In a related incident occurring just streets away in Maivally, 80-year-old Sharadamma encountered the same aggressive canine near her home. Upon seeing the dog, she attempted to flee but unfortunately slipped and fell. Before she could recover, the dog inflicted severe facial bites.
Responding quickly, neighbors wrapped both women in shawls and transported them to the Primary Health Centre in Punthenthope. Due to the severity of their injuries, medical personnel referred them to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for specialized treatment.
Medical authorities have verified that both women sustained deep facial wounds, though they remain under careful observation in stable condition.
Community members have reported that such stray dog attacks have become increasingly common in the area, causing particular concern among elderly residents who often take solitary walks in the early morning hours.
Family members of the injured women have called for immediate action to address the growing stray dog problem in the region.
