HR88B8888 is a special VIP vehicle registration number that has garnered significant attention.
The prestigious number plate 'HR88B8888', which made headlines last week for fetching Rs 1.17 crore in Haryana, is now set for reauction after the winning bidder failed to complete payment within the stipulated timeframe.
Sudhir Kumar, who serves as Director of transportation service company Romulus Solutions Private Limited, had successfully secured the VIP number 'HR88B8888' after an intense two-day bidding process. The final price of Rs 1.17 crore established this as India's most expensive vehicle registration number to date.
The payment deadline was set for December 1, 12 pm.
On Sunday, Kumar explained his predicament, stating that he attempted to transfer the bid amount twice on Saturday night but encountered technical difficulties. He also revealed that his family had reservations about spending such a substantial sum on a vehicle registration number.
"Ongoing discussions are happening within my family. The elders believe allocating such a large amount for a number plate isn't prudent, though I personally favor the purchase. We intend to reach a final decision by Monday."
Haryana conducts weekly online auctions for premium or VIP number plates. The bidding window opens from Friday 5 pm until Monday 9 am, during which interested parties can apply for their desired numbers. The competitive bidding continues until Wednesday 5 pm when results are officially announced. The entire auction process is conducted digitally through the official fancy.parivahan.gov.in portal.
During this particular auction cycle, the registration number 'HR88B8888' attracted remarkable interest with 45 total applications—the highest among all available numbers. Bidding began at the base price of Rs 50,000 and steadily climbed, ultimately reaching Rs 1.17 crore by 5 pm.
HR88B8888 is a distinctive vehicle registration or VIP number acquired at a premium through competitive bidding.
The 'HR' represents the state code, identifying the vehicle as registered in Haryana.
'88' indicates the specific Regional Transport Office (RTO) or district within Haryana where the vehicle was registered.
'B' designates the vehicle series code for that particular RTO.
'8888' is the unique four-digit registration number assigned to the vehicle.
What makes this number plate particularly desirable is its visual appearance—it resembles a continuous string of eights, as the uppercase 'B' looks similar to the number eight, creating an aesthetically appealing repetition of a single digit.
