Rahul Gandhi's 'No Comment' Reply To PM's Jabs, Priyanka Gandhi's Retort

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, declined to respond to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's critical remarks targeting Congress and opposition parties before Parliament's Winter Session commenced.

While Rahul maintained silence, his sister Priyanka Gandhi, MP from Wayanad, offered a pointed rebuttal to the Prime Minister's allegations. When questioned about accusations that the Opposition disrupts Parliament, she emphasized that important matters like Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and air pollution directly affect citizens and deserve discussion. "Parliament exists for meaningful debate, not drama. Raising significant issues isn't theatrical—the real drama is preventing democratic discussions on matters that concern the public," she stated.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had taken aim at the Opposition, expressing hope that Parliament wouldn't become a venue for "meltdown" following the Opposition alliance's defeat in Bihar elections. "There are numerous places for theatrical performances. Those wishing to engage in drama should do so elsewhere. Parliament demands delivery, not disruption," he remarked, referencing previous instances of protests and disorder in both Houses.

The Prime Minister urged containing "negativity" and focusing instead on national development. Taking a swipe at Congress and other opposition parties, he suggested that some parties face such strong anti-incumbency in certain states that they avoid facing constituents directly. "This frustration manifests in Parliament. Some parties have initiated a troubling precedent of misusing the parliamentary forum," Modi observed, adding that the Opposition should recognize these tactics' ineffectiveness. "I'm prepared to offer guidance on effective performance, but don't sacrifice your MPs because of disappointment over electoral defeats," he advised.

The Winter Session that began today will continue until December 19, comprising 15 sittings. While the government intends to introduce 13 Bills, the Opposition has prepared to exert pressure regarding Special Intensive Revision of voter lists.
