Bengaluru Autorickshaw Driver Flees With Traffic Officer After Accident on One-Way Street

A dramatic incident in Bengaluru involved an autorickshaw driver who, after causing an accident while driving the wrong way on a one-way street, fled with a traffic police officer still inside the vehicle. The driver later abandoned the autorickshaw near Gangannagar and escaped on foot. Police discovered a weapon in the vehicle and have launched a search for the suspect who faces multiple charges.

Police authorities have seized the autorickshaw but the driver remains at large (Representational).

An extraordinary incident occurred in Bengaluru when an autorickshaw driver, who was traveling in the wrong direction on a one-way street, collided with a scooter and subsequently fled with a traffic police officer inside his vehicle.

According to the report filed by the traffic officer, he was performing his regular traffic management duties on the evening of November 27. Between 9:00 pm and 9:15 pm, the officer observed an autorickshaw approaching from the 10th Cross, Sadashivanagar, moving against the designated one-way traffic flow.

The autorickshaw struck an oncoming scooter. The officer immediately intervened and confronted the driver about the traffic violation.

The officer directed the autorickshaw driver to pull over to the roadside. While the driver initially complied, he suddenly accelerated toward Hebbal while the officer was still seated in the vehicle during questioning.

Despite the officer's repeated commands to stop, the driver increased speed. During the ensuing struggle, the officer was thrown onto the road, resulting in complete damage to his walkie-talkie communication device.

The driver continued operating the vehicle before abandoning it near Gangannagar and escaping on foot. Reports indicate that two police officers and several citizens came to the traffic officer's assistance.

Upon examining the seized autorickshaw, authorities discovered a dagger/knife inside the vehicle.

The driver faces multiple charges including endangering public safety, causing an accident, obstructing a police officer in the performance of duties, damaging government property, and illegal possession of a weapon in a vehicle.

The Sadashivanagar Traffic Police have registered the case and initiated a search operation for the suspect. The investigation continues.
