India Issues Travel Advisory for Citizens Traveling to China Following Passport Dispute

India's External Affairs Ministry has advised citizens to exercise caution when traveling to or transiting through China after an incident where a woman from Arunachal Pradesh was detained at Shanghai airport when authorities refused to recognize her Indian passport. The ministry has called on China to provide assurances that Indian travelers will not face selective targeting or arbitrary detention during transit through Chinese airports.

The Indian External Affairs Ministry has confirmed that 2,790 Indian nationals illegally residing in the United States have been deported since January 2025. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal revealed these statistics during a weekly media briefing, adding that approximately 100 Indians have also been deported from the UK during the same period after proper nationality verification.
