The Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) has been extended for six months across Manipur, nine districts in Nagaland, and select regions of Arunachal Pradesh. While 13 police station jurisdictions in Manipur remain exempt, this extension follows continuing ethnic tensions that have claimed over 260 lives since May 2023. Despite ongoing protests against its allegedly draconian provisions, AFSPA continues to grant security forces extensive powers in these designated "disturbed areas" effective from October 1.
