Fast forward 33 years, and Imran Khan has transcended his identity as a cricket star or former Prime Minister. For a nation gripped by uncertainty, he has emerged as a formidable figure with unprecedented public support, evidenced by how Pakistan's self-designated 'Field Marshal', General Asim Munir, works to contain his influence.

Notably, this same 'Field Marshal' recently engineered a constitutional amendment, rewriting Article 234 to consolidate military authority under his command, effectively placing himself beyond the reach of a government historically subservient to military leadership.

These developments unfold against a backdrop of widespread concern about one pressing question: is Imran Khan still alive?

Imran Khan, Pakistan's Beloved Icon

Disturbing rumors have circulated suggesting the former Prime Minister has died while detained in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, a stronghold of Pakistan's military establishment. These speculations intensified after his three sisters – Noreen Niazi, Aleema Khan, and Dr. Uzma Khan – reported being physically assaulted when attempting to visit their brother.

Imran Khan has remained unseen for 25 consecutive days.

The veracity of these death reports would carry profound implications, not only for Pakistani citizens but also for the already strained diplomatic relations between Pakistan and India.

Munir, derisively labeled 'Field Marshal' by detractors, has established himself as the nation's most influential figure, despite Pakistan's military defeat to India during Operation Sindoor.

The recently passed constitutional amendment provides Munir lifetime legal immunity, extending similar protections to service chiefs and President Asif Ali Zardari. Additionally, it diminishes the Supreme Court's constitutional jurisdiction, effectively neutralizing what remained of judicial independence in the country.

Among its provisions, this amendment enables Zardari to transfer or dismiss senior judges at his discretion, subjecting the judiciary to direct executive control. Furthermore, Munir has been appointed Pakistan's inaugural Chief of Defence Forces, institutionalizing military supremacy across all government branches.
