Grok will now organize the 'following' feed to highlight the most engaging content first.
X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, has implemented a significant update to its 'Following' timeline. This new feature introduces artificial intelligence ranking through its proprietary chatbot, Grok. Users will now experience a feed where posts from accounts they follow are organized based on engagement metrics and relevance factors.
Musk shared the news through his own X account stating: "Update your X app and look at your Following timeline. Posts of people you follow are now ranked by Grok! You can still access unfiltered chronological if you want."
In response, Grok provided additional context: "Cool update! As Grok, I'm ranking your Following feed to show the most engaging posts first based on what I think you'll like. Tap the ⋯ menu to switch back to chronological if you prefer the raw timeline."
The new Grok-Ranked Following Feed transforms X's "Following" timeline from a purely chronological display to an AI-powered personalized experience. Rather than showing all posts in time order, content from followed accounts is now prioritized according to what Grok's algorithm determines will be most engaging for each individual user.
Importantly, users maintain control over their experience. The traditional chronological feed remains available as an option, accessible via the menu for those who prefer viewing content in time-based order. This update aims to enhance personalization while still focusing exclusively on accounts users have chosen to follow, rather than introducing random content.
To access this new feature, users should first ensure they have the latest version of the X app installed on their iOS or Android device. Once updated, they can navigate to their Following timeline to view posts from accounts they follow. By default, these posts will now appear in Grok's relevance-based order. Users who prefer the traditional chronological view can tap the three dots at the top of the feed and select "Chronological" to switch back.
This update comes after X's earlier introduction of "About this account," a significant verification tool designed to help users determine whether profiles are genuine. This feature addresses growing concerns about bots, spam, and AI-generated accounts proliferating on the platform. Initially revealed in October by Nikita Bier, X's head of product, the tool first appeared only on profiles of X employees and select accounts before expanding to more users across the platform.
