Trump Administration Moves to Designate Muslim Brotherhood Chapters as Terrorist Organizations

President Trump has signed an executive order initiating the process to designate specific Muslim Brotherhood chapters in Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan as terrorist organizations. The administration claims these factions support attacks against Israel and US allies in the Middle East. If implemented, this designation would impose sanctions against one of the Arab world's oldest and most influential Islamist movements.

Trump Begins Process Of Labeling Muslim Brotherhood Chapters As Terrorist

President Donald Trump has initiated proceedings to classify specific chapters of the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations.

On Monday, President Trump signed an executive order directing Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to prepare a report evaluating whether Muslim Brotherhood chapters in countries such as Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan should be designated as terrorist entities. According to a White House fact sheet, the secretaries must proceed with any designations within 45 days following the report's submission.

The Trump administration has alleged that Muslim Brotherhood factions in these countries have supported or encouraged violent attacks against Israel and US allies, or provided material support to Hamas, the Palestinian militant group.

"President Trump is confronting the Muslim Brotherhood's transnational network, which fuels terrorism and destabilization campaigns against US interests and allies in the Middle East," states the White House fact sheet.

The Muslim Brotherhood was established in Egypt during the 1920s as an Islamic political movement countering the proliferation of secular and nationalist ideologies. The organization rapidly expanded throughout Muslim countries, becoming a significant political force while often operating covertly.
