New York Mayor-Elect Mamdani Maintains Trump Fascist Views Despite Productive White House Meeting

New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani stood by his characterization of President Donald Trump as a fascist following their surprisingly cordial White House meeting. Despite their political differences, both leaders discussed shared goals, with Trump dismissing past criticisms while Mamdani emphasized his commitment to delivering results for New Yorkers regardless of their fundamental disagreements.

Mamdani Views Trump As Fascist Despite Friendly White House Meeting

"I continue to believe everything that I've said in the past," Mamdani affirmed.

New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani maintained his previous criticisms of President Donald Trump as acting like a despot and fascist during a Sunday interview, despite their surprisingly cordial White House meeting.

The democratic socialist mayor-elect and Republican president have exchanged harsh words previously. Trump described Mamdani as a "100% Communist Lunatic" on social media after his election victory, while Mamdani has accused Trump of undermining democracy. Nevertheless, both emerged from Friday's meeting smiling and discussing common objectives.

When questioned about his prior criticisms during a "Meet the Press" interview conducted Saturday, Mamdani stood firm on his position.

"I continue to believe everything that I've said in the past," Mamdani stated. "What's important in our politics is that we don't avoid our disagreements, but understand what brings us to the table. I'm not entering the Oval Office to make a statement or take a stand. I'm there to deliver results for New Yorkers."

During Friday's meeting, Trump dismissed Mamdani's past criticisms and even defended him. When a reporter asked if Mamdani maintained his view of Trump as a fascist, Trump interrupted before Mamdani could fully respond.

"That's OK. You can just say yes. OK?" Trump interjected. "It's easier. It's easier than explaining it. I don't mind."

When directly questioned about the fascist characterization on "Meet the Press," Mamdani confirmed, "That's something that I've said in the past. I say it today."

Kevin Hassett, National Economic Council director, told CNN's "State of the Union" that Trump wants to collaborate with anyone concerned about the American people's future.

"We're at times disagreeing about policies," Hassett explained, "but I think that the objective of making life better for everybody is something that many people share across Democratic and Republican lines."

Despite their significant political differences, the White House meeting offered potential advantages for both individuals. The incoming mayor gained a personal meeting with the president, while Trump had the opportunity to address affordability issues, which are increasingly important to voters.
