Trump's Ukraine Peace Plan Not Final: Diplomatic Efforts Continue as November Deadline Approaches

President Trump clarified that November 27 represents an "appropriate time" for Zelensky to consider reaching an agreement.

United States President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that his proposed plan to end the Ukraine conflict should not be considered his final proposal, expressing his hope that "one way or the other," the ongoing warfare would come to a conclusion.

When journalists inquired whether his 28-point proposal—which would require Ukraine to surrender territory, reduce its military forces, and commit to never joining NATO—represented his "final offer to Ukraine," Trump responded simply: "No."

"We're working toward ending this conflict. One way or another, we need to bring it to a close," he stated.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has responded with reservation to the plan, indicating he would suggest "alternatives."

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed willingness to discuss the details of the proposal but warned that if Kyiv rejected it, Moscow would continue its military campaign in Ukraine, which began in February 2022.

On Friday, Trump indicated that November 27—the American Thanksgiving holiday—would be an "appropriate time" to set as a deadline for Zelensky to accept an agreement, though he suggested flexibility regarding this timeline.

"He'll need to find the plan acceptable, and if he doesn't, then they may need to continue fighting," Trump told reporters. "Eventually he will have to accept some form of resolution."

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff are scheduled to arrive in Geneva on Sunday to discuss the proposal, according to a U.S. official who spoke with AFP. European officials are also expected to attend meetings in Switzerland.
