Several major European airports including London's Heathrow, Brussels, and Berlin are experiencing significant operational disruptions following a cyberattack on a service provider responsible for check-in and boarding systems, resulting in numerous flight delays and cancellations.
According to Brussels Airport, the attack has disabled automated systems, forcing staff to implement manual check-in and boarding procedures.
"This disruption is having a substantial impact on flight schedules and will unfortunately result in delays and flight cancellations," the operator explained in an official statement on their website.
"The service provider is currently working diligently to address the issue and resolve the problem as swiftly as possible."
Heathrow Airport has also issued warnings about delays stemming from "a technical issue" affecting a third-party supplier.
Passengers with flights scheduled for Saturday have been advised by affected airports to verify their travel arrangements with their respective airlines before departing for the airport.
"Due to a technical issue at a system provider operating across Europe, passengers are experiencing extended waiting times at check-in. We are actively working toward a quick resolution," Berlin airport announced via a banner on its official website.
A spokesperson for Frankfurt Airport confirmed that their operations have not been affected by the attack.
