Trump Launches Expedited 'FIFA Pass' Visa Program for 2026 World Cup Attendees

US President Donald Trump has made the World Cup a centerpiece event of his presidency.

President Donald Trump announced special expedited visas on Monday for individuals holding tickets to the 2026 World Cup, though his administration clarified that this does not guarantee automatic entry into the United States.

Despite concerns about Trump's border policies potentially affecting international fans, the United States has committed to providing a smooth experience for next year's tournament.

"For those planning to join us for the World Cup, I strongly encourage you to apply right away," Trump stated during the announcement in the Oval Office, accompanied by FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

Infantino, who has frequently appeared alongside Trump since his return to the White House in January, described the "FIFA Pass" as a "very important announcement."

"If you have a ticket for the World Cup, you can receive a prioritized appointment to obtain your visa," Infantino explained.

"We anticipate between five and 10 million people coming to America from around the world to enjoy the World Cup, and with this FIFA pass, we can ensure that legitimate ticket holders and football fans can attend the World Cup under optimal conditions."

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a cautionary note to prospective attendees.

"Your ticket is not a visa," Rubio emphasized during the announcement. "It doesn't guarantee admission to the US. It guarantees an expedited appointment, but you will still undergo the same vetting process."

Rubio indicated that ticket holders would receive an interview within six to eight weeks under the program but urged people not to delay.

"Don't wait until the last minute," he advised.

Trump has positioned the World Cup as a highlight event of both his second term and America's 250th independence anniversary next year.

However, the major sporting event has not been immune to political controversies stemming from Trump's hardline positions on various issues.

Trump has suggested the possibility of relocating matches from certain host cities amid his crackdown on what he characterizes as crime and migration issues in some Democratic-governed cities.

The World Cup draw is scheduled to take place in Washington on December 5.

FIFA will also present a new peace prize on the same day, with widespread speculation that Trump might be the recipient.
