Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman arrives at the White House for his first official visit since the Jamal Khashoggi controversy, seeking to solidify his international standing and validate President Donald Trump's continued support for his leadership.

The Tuesday meeting between Trump and MbS highlights their enduring strategic relationship that has weathered the global outcry following the 2018 killing of Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist who had become critical of the regime.

Seven years into his ascendancy, MbS has transformed his image to that of a peace facilitator, mending relations with Iran, advocating for peace in Gaza, and welcoming Syria back into the Arab community—a remarkable evolution for a leader once criticized for his aggressive military intervention in Yemen.

Both a modernizer and authoritarian ruler, MbS has established himself as the most influential and bold leader in Saudi Arabia's modern era, driving unprecedented transformation while shaping the kingdom's trajectory.

Within less than a decade, the 40-year-old prince has unleashed social reforms unseen since his grandfather King Abdulaziz founded the kingdom and established its crucial alliance with Washington.

MbS has dismantled the authority of the religious police, marginalized conservative clerics, and eliminated decades-old restrictive social regulations. Saudi women now enjoy freedoms previously unimaginable—driving vehicles, participating in the workforce, and socializing with men without fear of punishment.

In a dramatic cultural shift, Saudi Arabia has moved from requiring women to wear black abayas and head coverings to hosting international music stars and fashion events, transforming the country's global image from an isolated religious state to a rapidly modernizing nation.

However, the same leadership that has liberalized Saudi society has also consolidated power. Opposition has been suppressed, critics silenced, and competing power centers imprisoned and dismantled.
